Default B&W Mesmer Portrait

Got bored tonight so I figured I might pull out my tablet and draw something. I've never actually painted with it before, so this picture is a bit of an experiment. Hope it's not too bad.

Anyways, the "look" is based on my Mesmer, with some modifications. I've tried to make it recognisable as collector's top in /bowhead pose.

Any comments welcome.

Really nice, it doesn't look much like a mesmer to me though, but still nice.

*SHpiffy. the new, improved "spiffy".

The one problem that I have is that while the face is done beautifully, it is seemingly not in the same style as the rest of the clothing, it being more of the "airbrushed" kind of stylization than the almost line-work-like shading on the body and hair. I also think that the shadow on the wall would be a little smaller, seeing as to how the light source is hitting her almost completely on the left side, making the shadow a bit shorter, but a bit longer (even if most of it is off screen).

Overall, I like it very much. I wish I could paint like that, in any media.

I keep finding more and more flaws in my painting, but I'm hoping you guys don't do the same.

I see what you mean about the differing styles - I tried to go for a loose finish for the face where you can see each individual brush stroke, but it just didn't work out. I ended up with lots of hard, ugly shadows and messy lines all over the place...eurgh. Gotta keep working on that.

And I guess I didn't pay much attention to the shadow, thanks for bringing that up, I'll keep that in mind next time.

Thumbs up

when one has learned the years curriculum for social studies the year before in one's old school, and one has nothing to do, one studies shadows and comfortable ranges of movement. which is where i draw most of my technical criticisms from, hehe. You get a very diverse range of people in those classes. keep it up.

Only vaguely resembles a mesmer, but the painting itself is amazing!

I need one of those tablet things... <.<

Whoa didn't expect this much of a response. Thanks for your encouraging words everyone, I'm really motivated to do another painting (screw assignments). ;p

Yeah I gotta work on the likeness...ness. One of my weak points I think, my characters usually look human, but nothing like who they're meant to be like.
